Every October, Polio Australia and post-polio organisations around the world celebrate Polio Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to increasing the wider communities knowledge about the Late Effects of Polio/Post Polio Syndrome.
Theme
The theme for this years’ Polio Awareness Month is “Life stages of post-polio”, highlighting that Polio Australia, the peak body supporting polio survivors living in Australia, supports polio survivors from their 20s right up to their 90s and beyond. Although the last polio epidemic in Australia was in 1962, many people have migrated to Australia from countries where polio was eradicated more recently, or, is not yet eradicated.
