Australian Polio Register – Polio Contracted Overseas

Of the  2212  people who have so far recorded their polio details on the Australian Polio Register,  362  (12%)  of them now living in Australia contracted polio outside this country. The chart below displays the number of cases per year, while the map beneath shows when and where polio was contracted overseas and the total number of cases per location. Both the chart and the map are updated dynamically as each new registration giving an overseas polio location is recorded online.

To see more detail you can move the map and center it on different countries and towns by clicking and dragging the map with your mouse, and then zoom in and out (by using the mouse’s scroll wheel or by clicking on the zoom ladder at the left of the map).

Click on a red map marker to reveal in what years polio was contracted in that location. Note that the map markers point to the general locality only; they should not be interpreted as pointing to specific streets, for example.

For regions with many different polio locations, the red map markers are clustered together to reduce clutter on the map, with new regional clusters created as the map zoom level changes. Click on a regional cluster to zoom in and reveal the individual red map markers.

   
Red map markers indicate in what years polio was contracted in that location (the number on the marker gives the total number of polio cases currently recorded for the location).
Blue clusters indicate there are between 2 and 9 different polio locations in that region, with the number on the cluster giving the number of locations (zoom in to reveal the red map markers showing the number of polio cases currently recorded per location).
Yellow clusters indicate there are between 10 and 99 different polio locations in that region, with the number on the cluster giving the number of locations (zoom in to reveal the red map markers showing the number of polio cases currently recorded per location).
Red clusters indicate there are between 100 and 999 different polio locations in that region, with the number on the cluster giving the number of locations (zoom in to reveal the red map markers showing the number of polio cases currently recorded per location).
